About

My name is Jason. Originally from Minnesota, I am a long time resident (20 + years) of the Fushimi area of Kyoto. I am also a long time enthusiast of the food saké and tea culture that I stumbled upon here in my neighborhood. It’s one of the major reasons I continue to live here.

How did the tasting workshops get started? Well, it goes something like this……. I figured out the places I was spending most of my time at were these wonderful little specialty shops in the neighborhood.  It seemed like every time I stopped by to pick something up, I learned something new about Japanese food, saké and tea. They had become my classrooms. The friendly shop owners had become my sensei.

I soon came to think that this story was not getting the attention it deserved. After some suggestions and nudging from friends, an idea was born. I decided the best way to share that story was to hold tasting workshops.

Come and see for yourself why this story of Japanese food , saké and tea continues to excite and energize me after all these years!

By the way, the picture is me harvesting saké rice by hand. It’s backbreaking work, but well worth it!

Hope to see you in Fushimi!
